This is a series of tales from the tourist trail! In the days before digital cameras, there was
a great deal of anticipation in getting the holiday snaps back, weeks later at home, and
discovering how good or bad the photos were. Only the pick of the bunch were rated as
„for the album“ and therfore available for friends and family to view and admire. The
leftovers were generally designated to the shoebox in the top of the cupboard!
These days, the shoeboxes, and possible the album itself in a physical sense, are mostly
empty. At the world’s landmarks and beauty spots, wherever anything novel or interesting
is visible, you will find tourists posing and taking photos. As ever, it is primarily the tourists
themselves, rather than the landmarks, which are the true subjects of these photos. The
beauty in these images is the joy and delight so often displayed, offering some hint or
suggestion into the story behind the path that lead the people to that place and what
meaning is imbedded in this famous or beautiful site for them. We are all there together,
sharing something in common by our actions, our desire to prove our attendance and our
very presence in these places. We prove that we have made a mark on the world through
our photos, even if only within the pages our own albums.
